My Dear Niece,
Your beautiful doll came swiftly. Ruth Nancy was present when we unwrapped the package and immediately claimed it, she nursed it until bed time when her Mother carefully put it away until Christmas.
In the morning the baby saw some of the paper scraps and recognized them and almost immediately called for her doll. Thank you kindly for the gift.
I am rather impressed that you have received no word from John and while I have not written to him yet if my influence could be of benefit I would gladly offer it. Your aunt writes and sends her love and wishes both you and Julia May have a delightful and prosperous Christmas Season we go South in January but before going I expect to visit Gettysburg.
With lots of love,
Your (signature unreadable)
