Here at Flea Market Love Letters HQ we're always on the look out for 'letters in the wild' like these two we've found here in Ireland. One from Irish poet W.B. Yeats and the other from Marilyn Monroe's personal assistant to the Hollywood Icon herself.

W.B. Yeats:

Kept in the Dante Room at the historic United Arts Club in Dublin City Centre -- a historical artefact of its own! -- this xerox copy of an original Yeats letter was written by the poet to his co-founder, Ellie Duncan. Ellie Duncan among other significant names in Irish literature and arts helped to co-found the arts club in 1907.

Dear Mrs. Duncan
I am sorry to say that the dress rehearsal of 'Well of the Saints' has had to be put off from Tuesday to Wednesday night. I cannot therefore open the discussion -- the nearest I can hope for is to get to the Club before the discussion is over.
Yours
WBYeats.

'Dear Marilyn':

On display at the Museum of Style Icons in Newbridge, Co. Kildare, this 1961 letter from May Reis — personal assistant to Marilyn Monroe — was sent to Marilyn and details Reis’s trip to Ireland, a country she described fondly.

Dear Marilyn,
This has truly been a delightful holiday in Ireland. My dear friends in County Kildare are still warm, loving people I met a few years ago - and I have thoroughly enjoyed all the pleasures of their house. Now, Betty Green (my hostess) and I are off on a motor trip through the West Coast and I have so enjoyed seeing another part of the country.

Next week I leave for Paris. So you see how many 'New and happy memories' I am collecting.
I have heard you have been in California and I do hope it is enjoyable....and I don't know if you are still away. I am sending this on to 57 street.
As Pearl will send it on if you are not back yet.
I'll have loads to tell you.
May
