Dear Mary: –
I wonder what you are doing tonight. Hope you are getting ready to see the foot-ball game. Don’t know if Harry and Bush went tonight or not but surely Davy found out that the game was tonight in stead of tomorrow night. We rec’d your letter this morning and Dorothy the hose this noon. Dorothy liked the hose but one of them had two runners in it. One near the top and the other above the ankle. She thot she would see if she could take them back. It was hard to see them until you put your hand in. The first one she found at once and then when she held it up I saw the other one. Save the sale ticket if you still have it.
Dorothy has had eight finger waves so far this week and has at least one for tomorrow. If she could just have this much every week.
We have been pretty busy most of this time this week but of course we get up late. Try to get up and get Mildred out about 7:00.
Dorothy washed + ironed and baked dandy rolls and coffee cake today and had two finger waves. Mrs Moore and Nadine Myers. Then said she washed dishes all PM. She didn’t even go down to Madonnas to see the baby. It about the first day. She usually brings her up here about time school closes and then Madonna comes up after supper. Last night she didn’t come until 7:00 but Marilyn never cried a bit.
I don’t know if Mildred has been home a night this week. Wed- skating party. Thurs - Ligonier – big week tonight Luther League party. I suppose the tests will be next week and report cards next.
I suppose you are anxious to hear from yours. I think you will be O.K. this month yet. You will surely hear soon or you couldn’t continue the work, could you?
Today I canned Swiss Chard – made some peach butter and did some ironing. Made the beds. Played a few games of Solitare, went up town to market, etc.
Yesterday I cleaned your three wool dresses, mended them first so they are ready to take back the next time you are home. I’m afraid the moths were in that red wool one and that you will have to watch it closely. We should have packed them in moth balls. The next time you come home bring your bathing suit and we will pack them up. No chance of you getting to go swimming at Y.M.C.A. is there? They do have pools there and it would be a good place to learn to swim.
Wednesday eve, had a long ride – went to Topeka on business (not mine) then to La Grandge – got a box of candy too – then to Shipshewana and home on No 20. It was lovely but has been pretty cool since. In fact D. is up stairs reading in bed to keep warm and I shall soon do the same. Will build fire in the morning if it is not warmer. If you don’t get home you will need your winter dresses soon.
If we get to Goshen tomorrow, will get the lining for your black coat and try and get it done next week. I haven’t had time to fix my black dress yet but must do that next week.
We thot of going to Ligonier last night but there was no gas in the car and no one wanted to buy any.
Must close and take this to box. I read a book this week the first for long time. “Redhead” by Elinor Glyn.
Lots of love
from Mother
